Merlot is Long Island’s most widely planted red grape and our winemakers are able to produce distinctive examples of this varietal.
To celebrate Merlot month, Forbes.com highlights the great qualities of the often under-appreciated Merlot by calling out its many beautiful qualities such as “black cherry and chocolate notes; silky texture and ability to age.”
Not suprising, the top two Merlots tasted for the piece were from Long Island producers! Martha Clara’s 2013 Estate Reserve “dazzles with food and on its own,” while Wölffer Estate’s 2013 Lambardo Merlot is “pure elegance.”
